<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/hunter-biden/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Hunter Biden</a> indicated he is contemplating a presidential run in 2028, following a previous dismissal of the idea.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In a conversation with radio host John Catsimatidis, Biden stated he “may have to” run for the <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/white-house/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">White House</a> if he receives Catsimatidis’s endorsement. This remark appeared to be humorous, given Catsimatidis's affiliation as a conservative donor and ally of President <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/donald-trump/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Donald Trump</a>.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Biden may be considering the possibility of a 2028 presidential campaign, following in his father's footsteps.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In an interview on August 21 with late-night host <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/bill-maher/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bill Maher</a>, Biden mentioned that he would struggle with his addictions if he were to run for president.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“No, I haven’t [thought of running],” he said on HBO’s <em>Real Time with Bill Maher</em>. “Here’s my thing — if I announce for president, then somebody should check and see if I relapsed.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Biden has been candid about his battles with drug and alcohol addiction in his 2021 memoir, <em>Beautiful Things</em>. He recently marked seven years of sobriety.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The 56-year-old was previously at the center of the laptop controversy that emerged one month before the 2020 election, which contributed to the election of former President <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/joe-biden/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Joe Biden</a>. The laptop's contents revealed details about his drug use, firearm possession, and tax issues.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Hunter Biden faced federal gun and tax offense charges but received a full and unconditional presidential pardon from his father for all federal offenses allegedly committed between 2014 and 2024.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Despite critics citing his past legal issues as disqualifying for higher office, Biden emphasized the importance of adhering to the legal system as a prerequisite for presidency.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“Here is my qualification for becoming president, if you believe in the Constitution of the United States of America that you swear to uphold and protect. I want the next president to commit to one thing: To adhering to the rule of law,” he told Catsimatidis.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If he were to become president, Hunter Biden expressed a desire to assist individuals struggling with various types of addictions.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“The things I care most about is the 50 million Americans that are still suffering with their addictions,” he stated.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Regardless of his decision on a presidential run, Hunter Biden noted that the <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/democratic-party/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Democratic Party</a> has a strong pool of potential candidates. He mentioned Governors <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/andy-beshear/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Andy Beshear</a> (D-KY) and <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/jb-pritzker-2/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">JB Pritzker</a> (D-IL), and expressed admiration for Governor <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/gavin-newsom/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Gavin Newsom</a> (D-CA), who is considered a leading candidate for a potential 2028 presidential bid.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As of now, no candidates from either party have announced their presidential campaigns ahead of the <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/midterm-elections/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">midterm elections</a>.</p>
