Representative Ralph Norman, a Republican from South Carolina, announced his candidacy for the Senate seat in South Carolina following the death of Senator Lindsey Graham. During an appearance on 'Saturday In America with Kayleigh McEnany,' Norman stated, 'I'm here to announce that I will be a candidate for the Senate,' and emphasized his commitment to President Trump's America First agenda. He expressed support for Trump's SAVE America Act and mentioned his intention to eliminate the filibuster, stating that Republicans need to 'nuke' the procedure.
Norman's announcement comes shortly after President Trump endorsed Darline Graham, Lindsey Graham's sister, who was appointed to complete the remainder of his term. Norman acknowledged Trump's endorsement but stated that it would not deter his plans to run.
He will participate in the special GOP primary election scheduled for August 11 and is in the process of filing the necessary paperwork. Norman has received endorsements from GOP Senators Mike Lee and Rick Scott, both of whom oppose the filibuster. He will face competition in the primary, with at least two other candidates already declared, including businessman Mark Lynch and attorney Duke Buckner. Additionally, Rep. Russell Fry has not yet announced his candidacy but is being considered for the Senate seat by state lawmakers.
