Two police officers among several shot in downtown Minneapolis

<p>Two police officers were among multiple individuals shot on Wednesday in downtown Minneapolis, resulting in at least one death and six injuries, according to officials. </p><p>The Minneapolis police reported that the shooting involved "multiple victims," including the two law enforcement officers. Sources indicated that the officers sustained injuries to the shin and abdomen. </p><p>Both officers are in stable condition. The suspected shooter was reported to be "down," according to sources. </p><p>In total, seven patients were transported to Hennepin Healthcare Medical Center, where three individuals with gunshot wounds underwent surgery. </p><p>The incident prompted a significant police response. </p><p>"My public safety team is responding to a shooting that took place downtown Minneapolis this afternoon," Minnesota Governor Tim Walz stated on X. "State officials are on the ground to support local law enforcement, and we will share more information as it becomes available." </p><p>In a follow-up post, Walz expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts to ensure community safety. </p><p>Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in St. Paul were also dispatched to the scene. </p><p>FBI Director Kash Patel acknowledged awareness of the shooting and stated that the agency would provide necessary resources to assist local authorities. </p><p>The Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police recognized the injured officers in a social media message, stating, "Two Minneapolis officers were shot today answering the call downtown. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved — the wounded, their families, and the officers still holding the line tonight." </p><p>Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison described the shooting as "horrifying," expressing condolences for those affected, including the injured officers. He affirmed his support for law enforcement and offered assistance from his office. </p><p>Amy Klobuchar, the Democratic nominee in the Minnesota governor's race, communicated with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey regarding the shootings, stating, "My prayers are with the victims and their loved ones. Thank you to our courageous law enforcement." </p><p>Her Republican opponent, state House Speaker Lisa Demuth, also expressed her awareness of the situation, stating she was "praying for the victims of this heinous crime, and I'm incredibly thankful for the massive response of our brave law enforcement officers." </p><p>The University of St. Thomas, located near the shooting site, announced a lockdown of its Minneapolis campus. </p>
