Victims Identified in Minneapolis Apartment Shooting, Officers Injured

<p>Minnesota officials released the identities of the victims involved in a shooting at a Minneapolis apartment on September 3, 2026, which resulted in the deaths of two civilians and injuries to two police officers.</p><p>The deceased civilians were identified as Dale Henry Spry, 63, and Muse A. Afrah, 61, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA). One victim was pronounced dead at the apartment complex, while the other died at a hospital.</p><p>The shooter, Carlton Neal Johnson II, 35, was fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire with police. A preliminary autopsy indicated that Johnson died from multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.</p><p>The injured Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) officers were identified as Joseph Michnowski, a five-year veteran, and Yahye Ahmed, who has been with the department for nearly two years, according to the BCA.</p><p>Officer Ahmed was released from the hospital on September 4, while Officer Michnowski remained hospitalized. Interim Police Chief Bill Peterson stated that one officer sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, while the other underwent surgery.</p><p>Another officer involved in the incident was evaluated for a non-life-threatening injury after being cut by glass while breaking a window of a police vehicle. This officer was identified as Ernest Boateng, who was released after evaluation.</p><p>The BCA reported that at least one officer discharged their weapon during the incident, identifying the officer as Liban Mohamed Ibrahim, a two-year veteran of the MPD. Investigators are continuing to determine whether any other officers fired their weapons.</p><p>The shooting occurred during a domestic child custody exchange involving a woman who had previously been in a relationship with Johnson. Reports indicate that Johnson shot the woman outside the building before entering the apartment, where he shot another facility worker. He then moved to the ninth floor, where he shot two residents who later died.</p><p>Court records indicate that Johnson was facing eviction from the apartment building. Officials have not yet determined whether he specifically targeted the victims.</p>
